Study at Latino Schools in Quito, Ecuador!

This program is designed to provide students the opportunity to fulfill Spanish language requirements at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels (SUNY Geneseo students: only Advanced Grammar and/or Indigenous Culture).

The city of Quito, Ecuador is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by the snow capped peaks of the Andes. Furthermore, it has kept its colonial charm in spite of growing to the size of two million. The temperature is determined by the altitude and averages around 60-70 during the day and 50 during the night.

Latino Schools in Quito, is set in the residential area of La Carolina, next to La Carolina park (great place for students since they can practice sports such us soccer, basket, volley, jogging, aerobics, roller skating, etc and about 10.000 quitenos practice sports specially Saturday and Sunday). It is also close to the Metropolitan park, the biggest green area in Quito, which is a great place to go to do some jogging, running, mountain biking and have a fantastic view of the valley of Quito.

The school is located is a small street called Noruega, which is a residential area, full of good restaurants, galleries, five shopping centers, many hotels around the school, several internet cafes, and much more!

Excursions Included in Program:

City tour of Quito

Day trip to Cloud Forest, Quilotoa lake, Cotopaxi volcano, and Middle of the World (monument park that pays tribute to the equator).

Students must be in good academic standing with no disciplinary record. A maximum of 10 students per semester will be admitted.

This program was designed to provide students seeking to fulfill Spanish language requirements at the beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels (SUNY Geneseo students: only Advanced Grammar and/or Indigenous Languages) the experience of studying the language, and Hispanic cultures and literatures in one of the most ethnically, historically and naturally rich regions of the world.

The program is offered during the summer term.  Students enroll in a single course for 3 weeks and earn 4 credit hours.

SUNY Geneseo students at an advanced level can only earn 6 credits towards your Spanish major or minor.

Students reside with Quiteno families carefully selected to match the participants' housing needs. Living with local families ensures full immersion in the Ecuadorian culture and the opportunity to further develop Spanish language skills. Students receive two meals a day (breakfast and dinner).

Two required pre-departure meetings and one orientation at Latino Schools are held to prepare students for the program.
