Mexico - Universidad de Las Americas Puebla Exchange 158

Fall, Spring, Full Year
Puebla, Mexico (Map)

Geneseo is proud to offer this selective undergraduate program with one of Mexico's leading private universities.  Two forms of the program are offered: a study abroad program and an exchange program.  Costs differ between the two.  There are a limited number of spaces available on the exchange program.

Students may study in the following areas:

  • Political Science
  • International Relations
  • Mexican Studies

Program participants are fully integrated into the university community; they directly enroll in regular courses, live in student housing, and have access to all campus activities.  Thus, they need to be at an advanced level, fluent or near fluent in Spanish.

Established in 1940, the Universidad de las Américas is a modern, dynamic university.  Its campus is spacious and well-equipped.  It offers students many amenities, including a large library with study carrels at the forefront of the digital age, student computer facilities, access to email, direct-dial student telephone stations, bookstore, cafeteria, and a dining hall.

Mexico is a fascinating country of rich contrasts.  It has extraordinarily varied landscapes, a mixture of the traditional and ultra-modern.

The city of Puebla is about 60 miles southest of Mexico City and is Mexico's fourth largest city.  Although modern and highly industrialized, its historic downtown remains a Spanish-colonial treasure filled with elegant 17th and 18th century European architecture and art and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It has a temperate climate year-round, friendly and courteous residents (called poblanos) and delicious regional cuisine.

Cholula, the home of UDLAP, is a city of 75,000, about 30 minutes from Puebla.  It is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the New World, an enormously rich site for archaeologists and home to the world's largest pyramid.  The city today remains very much an Indian center of culture.  Still separated into distinctive barrios, Cholula has many churches and, at 400, the most religious festivals anywhere in Mexico.

A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.  The exchange program is a competitive program.  Applicants with a disciplinary record or pending disciplinary hearings should alert the Study Abroad Office.
