Japan - Rikkyo University Semester Exchange

Study for a semester or an academic year at Rikkyo University, located in the heart of Tokyo.  Students have the opportunity to study intercultural communication courses taught in English and can complement their study by enrolling in Japanese language courses.

A leading liberal arts teaching and research institution, the university is internationally oriented and involved in numerous international programs and projects.  With more than 700 students coming from outside of Japan, the institution enrolls a total of 20,000 students and employs 2,700 faculty and staff members.

In Spetember 2014, the Japanese Ministry of Education announced that Rikkyo University had been selected as a 'Global Hub' University and will now receive special strategic government funding to support its global educational programs.  Learn more by watching this short video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM14OXrF_oM


All students must be in good academic standing at their home university and be at a minimum of sophomore standing. Applicants with a disciplinary record or pending disciplinary hearings should alert the Study Abroad Office.

Spring 2025: 


March 25 - April 9: Orientation for New Special International Students
April 10: Classes begin

Mid-April: Due Date for Course Registration for Special International Students

July 19: Classes end

July 20 - 31: Final Exams

August 1: Summer recess 

Fall 2024:

September 1 and 2: Move-In Days

September 19: Orientation for New Special International Students
September 20: Classes start
October 31 - November 5: Fall Recess
December 24 - January 6: Winter Recess

January 22: Classes end
January 23 - February 3: Final Exams

NOTE:  Given the dates of the fall semester, it is advised that students choose to study at Rikkyo University for either the full Academic Year (September through July) or the Spring Semester.  Studying at Rikkyo University for the Fall Semester will be problematic given the start dates of the Geneseo spring semester.

Students will be housed in one of the following dorms with Rikkyo University:

1 RIR Shiinamachi
2 RUID Asakadai
3 RUID Shiki
4 Rikkyo Global House*
5 Comfort Ikebukuro*

*Due to various circumstances, Rikkyo Global House and Comfort Ikebukuro shall not be available for the Spring 2025 semester. Therefore, only students on one-semester programs are eligible for Rikkyo Global House.
